Campeche

Campeche

Just far enough away from the tourist crowds who mostly hug México’s eastern Caribbean coast, the state of Campeche is still a place to explore without all the commercialization and masses of people you run into in places like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum.

As the far western-most México state in the Yucatán peninsula, Campeche does not have the white sand beaches overlooking clear aqua blue waters like the Caribbean coast has. However it does have nice brown sand beaches next to the warm waters of the Gulf of México.

You can also explore several very impressive ancient city ruins including the very rural Calukmul archaeological site situated deep in the jungle not far from the Guatemala border. Other activities are taking a cruise through mangrove estuaries, visiting small indigenous villages, old haciendas, and exploring the city of Campeche which still has sections of its fortress wall intact.

For curious and adventurous travelers, the state of Campeche has many places of interest to experience.
