San Luis Potosí

The focal point is the capital city by the same name as the state. It is easy to walk around the city of San Luis Potosí as there are 3 plazas within a couple blocks of each other. Besides the many churches, there are also art and history museums to explore.

Traveling north a few hours from the city is a mining region where some of the richest silver mines in all of México are located. One of the old mining towns to visit is Real de Catorce. The only way in and out of this dusty town is through a one lane tunnel road blasted through a mountain in the early 1900s.

The eastern part of the state is filled with natural outdoor beauty. Waterfalls, caves, river rapids, and thermal waters can be found there. Camping areas as well as rustic cabins are scattered through this region known as the Huasteca Potosina area.
