Colima

Colima

One of the great experiences visitors can have in this small México state which is unique to all the other states is the opportunity to witness volcanic eruptions on a daily bases. The 13,000 foot tall Volcán de Fuego (Fire Volcano) puts on its show on an irregular basis just about everyday blowing great plumes of white smoke into the blue sky. Usually it erupts multiple times each day.

For avid fisherman, the waters off the coast of the resort city of Manzanillo is a place to catch big trophy fish like marlin and sailfish.

Another seaside town worth a visit is Cuyutlán. From volcanic erosion, its beach consists of fine black sand. During certain months of each year, mama sea turtles come onto this beach to lay their eggs. To learn more about protecting these eggs, there is a turtle sanctuary just up from the water’s edge.

The towns of Colima and Comala are only a short 30 minutes from each other making it easy to explore both of these traditional towns.
