Back Roads of Veracruz │ Rural Coastal Villages Tour - 3 Days
Waterfalls, Rural Seaside Villages, Tropical Wildlife & Beach Time
3 Day Guided México Exploration Tour
* This tour is only offered on weekdays, Monday-Friday
from $795 per person + air
Single Room +$140
On this guided tour into the rural back roads of southern Veracruz, we’ll hike into this region’s green rolling hills to enjoy hidden waterfalls, visit small seaside villages alongside the Gulf of México, view tropical wildlife in their natural environment, and have time to enjoy the local beaches.
We will stay at Casa de las Olas (The House of Waves) which sits on a secluded high bluff overlooking the vast expanse of the Gulf of México. This small family run hotel is sandwiched between two semi-deserted beaches giving us virtually our own private beaches. Las Olas has an on-site restaurant which serves simple but delicious food.
The Los Tuxtlas Region in the Mexican state of Veracruz is located 100 miles south of the historical port city of Veracruz. This is a recognized World Biosphere Area because of the vast amount of tropical trees, plants, animals, and birds which can be found there.
It was said that movie director, Steven Spielberg had considered using this tropical region to film Jurassic Park. Once our local tour guide leads us into this area, we'll immediately see what Mr. Spielberg saw … a backdrop of mysteriously beautiful volcanic hills draped in a skirt of green color.
FYI: Some areas of this tour will have very little or no internet and cell phone service.
Join us for a true relaxed tropical escape on this 3 day Back Roads of Veracruz to explore its southern rural coastal villages.

PRE-TOUR DAY:
Arrive to the city of Veracruz to get ready to meet our local guide the next morning. There are many hotels and airbnbs to choose from in the city which range in price from very inexpensive to under $100 USD. We recommend the comfortable Hotel Baluarte, a nice 3 star hotel.
DAY 1: Travel to the Costa de Oro Region of Veracruz / Ocean Boat Ride
In the morning, our personal host guide will meet us at our accommodations in the city of Veracruz or Boca del Rio.
We'll then travel a few hours south to a small rural seaside village where your group will board a boat for a ride on the ocean to explore a huge pirate cave, view tall rocky cliffs, and experience hundreds of sea birds found on an island rookery off the coast. If we're lucky, we may also spot flying fish leaping out of the water.
Later lunch will be right on the beach at one of the small locally owned restaurants. Here we can kick off our sandals and feel the sand between our toes as we eat fresh sea food (other kinds of foods are available too) only steps away from the shimmering blue sea.
In the afternoon, our host guide will take us to check in at the La Casa de las Olas which is located on a high bluff overlooking the Gulf of México. This small 3 floor hotel is locally owned and provides 6 simple clean and comfortable rooms (5 with with 2 double beds and 1 room with 3 double beds).
The rest of the afternoon and evening is yours to do as you like. We can go for a swim at one of the nearby beaches, take a stroll along the ocean, or just relax and enjoy the expansive ocean vista below from your hotel. Dinner can be at the hotel's restaurant. Our group will sleep here for 2 nights.
DAY 2: Day Hike to Discover Hidden Tropical Waterfalls (B,L)
After a relaxed breakfast at the hotel, it will be time to meet up with a local guide who will lead us on a 5 hour walking tour up into the surrounding hills to a couple of hidden waterfalls. Along the way, everyone will get to meet a local farmer who will introduce you to how farming is done in this tropical region.
A simple boxed lunch, water, and soft drinks will be included for each of us. We will also have the opportunity to swim in some of the pools and streams we will encounter. For those of us who would like to experience a real "Tarzan-like" adventure, there will have a chance to jump from a high cliff into a deep pool below. The jump is about 30 feet (10 meters).
Later, everyone will head back to La Casa de las Olas for the evening.
DAY 3: Relaxed Morning / Return to the Port City of Veracruz (B)
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast. There will be time to go for another ocean swim, take a walk, or find a hammock, relax, and just enjoy the sounds of the ocean waves breaking again the rocky shoreline below.
After checking out in the late morning, we'll start heading north and back toward the city of Veracruz. For lunch, we will stop at a typical local restaurant along the way. Arriving in the late afternoon/early evening, our guide will drop us off at our accommodations in the city of Veracruz or Boca del Rio. The rest of the evening is our to enjoy in this historic port city.
Note: Since our arrival will be later in the day/evening, securing a hotel for the night in the city would be a good idea to do in advance.
Come and join us on this quick 3 day getaway to the coastal regions of southern Veracruz.

TESTIMONIAL

“You don’t go to all the crowded places. You go to all the more neat places; the more local places.”
