Day 1: (D)
After arriving at the Cabo San Lucas Airport CSL, you will be met by a tour representative who will drive you to the Pueblo Mágicotown of Todos Santos (90 mins). This quaint town is home to many nice cafés, artisan galleries, and other cool shops for browsing. Todos Santos has a laidback relaxed feel to it. The New York Times once had a travel piece about this town with the title, Relishing the Waves, Not the Crowds, in México.
Just a 5 minute drive from downtown, you will check in to the Los Colibris Casitas (or similar), a small resort with 2 main houses and 4 cute cabaña-type houses (called “casitas”). With the amenities of a boutique hotel, you will also find a kitchenette and a balcony or roof-top terrace. The views from each room at Los Colibris Casitas are spectacular with vast vistas of the Pacific Ocean, a freshwater estuary, and long stretches of pristine beach. You won’t find crowds of tourists here which really makes it the perfect place for families to play, explore, and relax together. Also, the sunsets over the Pacific can be most colorful. FYI: This resort has Wi Fi but no TV.
A welcome dinner will be held at the Hotel California (remember the Eagle’s song). However this place was not their inspiration for the lyrics. But hey, you can take photos of your family in front of the place, send it to your friends back home, and they won’t know the difference. At dinner, a tour representative will join your family to fill you in on all the coming week’s activities and answer all your questions.
Day 2: (B,L,D)
Did you ever think you would be learning to surf with your kids or grandkids? This morning, you will meet with a local resident surfing instructor to learn the basics. Then it will be your turn to hit the waves. Don’t worry, they are not that huge. In fact, the instructors guarantee you will be able to get up and ride a wave . . . OK, at least for a few moments. Bring your GoPro or waterproof camera and take photos of each other looking Rad as a surfing dude or dudettes.
After a nice beachside lunch, it will be time to saddle up for a horseback ride along the coast. Giddy-Up! The horses are gentle, so even if you are not an experienced rider, you can still enjoy this fun activity with your family.
In the evening, everyone will head over to Café Brown where you will meet the chef (who used to be a lawyer). He will be teaching you how to prepare some simple dishes. He likes to call this class, Mexico Survival Cooking. Even people who are not into cooking find his class to be a lot of fun.
Afterwards, you will again overnight at Los Colibris Casitas or similar.
Day 3: (B,L,D)
This morning after breakfast, go grab your hiking shoes because you will have the opportunity to explore a desert canyon where you will encounter 3 refreshing waterfalls. Along the way, you can marvel at the picturesque desert scenery. A picnic lunch will take place by one of the waterfalls.
Later, everyone will head back to Los Colibris Casitas and enjoy some family time at the infinity pool, or arrange for a massage, or head into town to do some exploring, or maybe just take a well-deserved siesta under the warm desert sun.
In the evening, get ready for some tasty home-style Mexican food which will happen in a lovely garden setting. Champaign will be waiting for the adults and soft drinks/juice for the kids.
Afterwards, when it is sufficiently dark, the desert sky will reveal a plethora of stars. A local astronomer will join your group to talk about what you are seeing as well as to relate the stories of the night sky from the ancient mythologies of the Aztecs, Mayans, and Greeks.
Overnight again at Los Colibris Casitas or similar.
Day 4: (B,L,D)
Today, get packed up because it will be time to head out on a México Road Trip. After breakfast, you will check out, pack up the van, and take off for the other side of the Baja Peninsula. Your destination on this 90 minute ride will be the beautiful Balandra Bay in the Sea of Cortés.
The Balandra Bay is an excellent place for your family to go on a kayak adventure. It is a secluded bay which features mangrove estuaries, awesome rock formations, and beautiful beaches. The day will be yours to explore this part of the Sea of Cortés. The famous ocean explorer, Jacques Cousteau once said, the Sea of Cortés is “the aquarium of the world.” In other words, it’s a fantastic place to hang and play for the day. Your family will also enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach.
On this evening, you will have dinner at the well-known Rancho Viejo Restaurant in La Paz. Your accommodations for this evening will be at the Hotel Marina which is located very close to the downtown area of La Paz.
Day 5: (B,L,D)
Unlike paying to interact with dolphins in a controlled environment for a few minutes at an aquarium, today your family and family and friends will have the unique opportunity to view up-close and even snorkel with sea lion pups in the wild as they dart all around you in the Sea of Cortés. Plus you can bring your own water-proof camera and take as many photos as you want. For many, this activity is the highlight of their family trip to Baja. It is an experience not to be missed!
Later, everyone will travel the road back across the peninsula to Los Colibris Casitas (or similar) in todos Santos.
Day 6: (B,L,D)
On this final full day of your Family Fun Adventure Week, everyone is invited to go for a hike to view from a higher vantage point, birds, sea lions, and maybe even spot some whales (depending on the season). On this 3½ hour walk, you will also have time for swimming, relaxing on the beach, and to have a picnic lunch.
In the evening, everyone will gather for a farewell dinner and to reminisce about the highlights of your family time together in this beautiful and tranquil region of México.
Day 7: (B)
After breakfast, everyone will pack up, check out, and return to the airport in Cabo San Lucas for your travel day home
