Our Tours Are Active Tours . . . Some more than others.

Check the details of the tour you are interested in going on to determine if it is right for you.

Altitude

Most of central México is located at a high elevation.

As an example, México City is at 7,350 feet (2,240 meters). The colonial cities located north of México City range in elevations between 5,000 feet (1500 m) and 6,000 feet (1850 m).

When you first arrive to these higher elevations, you may experience shortness of breathe until your body starts to acclimate.

There are several chains of mountains which run through México. These regions too will have higher elevations with thinner air.

Walking

On our tours, you may be standing and walking from 2-5 hours each day. Be prepared to be on your feet.

Sometimes the pavement you will be walking on are cobbled pathways, dirt pathways, and as mentioned in our Safety section, there may be uneven sidewalks.

Also, in some of the colonial cities you may encounter, there are streets with steep inclines and declines.

Climbing

As you can see in the photo above, the steps going up some of the pyramid structures found in México can be quite narrow with a steep incline. Note that there may or may not be rails or ropes to hang on to during your ascent and descent.

Stairs

On some of our tours, the hotels we put you in may only have stairs and not have an elevator to reach the 2nd, 3rd, and maybe 4th floor.

Luggage

You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage to and from your tour vehicle to your room accommodations. Not all hotels we use on our tours have a staff person to assist you. As mentioned above, you may have to carry your bags up and down stairs at some hotels.
